Week 2 - Promortyus
What's going on guys! Welcome back to the blog. Today, I'm going to look at the very famous show Rick and Morty. Specifically, I'm going to be examining the episode "Promortyus".
I'm guessing this title is derived from the movie Prometheus. I, in fact, have not watched this movie before but I've heard of it. It seems related to the Alien franchise if you're interested in those movies.
Anyway, this episode revolves around a similar aspect where Rick and Morty are taken over by members of a parasite-like society. Rick and Morty believe these "face-huggers" (Alien imagery of this type of creature shown below) are out to destroy the universe. This perception of parasitic aliens is continually shown in popular media where they're generally designed to be the villains in every movie.
This episode attacks this "alienphobic" representation. In the beginning of the episode, we see Rick and Morty wiping out almost the alien's entire race using an array of weapons. In Star Wars, we have no problem killing stormtroopers, but we never stop to consider these people's lives.
We later see Rick and Morty undergoing an "unnecessarily badass suit up" (shown below). They proceed to kill hundreds of parasites in order to get to Morty's sister, who it turns out is not being held against her will. At the end of this episode, Rick and Morty realize that this alien species is only trying to spread peace and love. I believe the creators of this episode meant to go against common movie tropes, inspiring a more accepting generation of movie/show directors.
Fun fact (although maybe not so fun): In the final scene of the episode, Rick and Morty are resting at home when they feel a grumbling in their stomachs. They fear that they have an alien baby inside their bodies that will eventually burst out, killing them in the process. They quickly say their goodbyes to their family, while waiting on the inevitable doom. In reality, they just really had to use the bathroom and they end up defecating on the living room floor.

ReplyDeleteI will consider watching the decoy episode. I'm taking other suggestions as well. Gummies are great.
